New York State preliminary heat maps were developed using the i‑Tree Cool Air model, a physically based analytical spatial air‑temperature and humidity model developed to map urban heat islands and cooling potential of urban forests.

Disadvantaged communities at the census tract level are highlighted in cyan as part of New York's mission to ensure that frontline and otherwise underserved communities benefit from the state’s historic transition to cleaner, greener sources of energy, reduced pollution and cleaner air, and economic opportunities.
